According to one Native American legend, this New York region was named when the great Spirit laid his hands on the land to bless it. His fingers left imprints that filled with water, hence the name “Finger Lakes.” The area expands across 9,000 square miles and encompasses a total of 11 parallel lakes spanning the center of New York state like a giant handprint. Although each of these thin glacial lakes has a name of its own, they are most offer referred to as a group: the Finger Lakes.
Breathtaking scenery, important historic sites, fertile farmlands, world class museums (including the Women’s Rights National Museum in Seneca Falls), charming villages, farm to table culinary delights and award winning wines are highlights of this unique region. The variety of experiences visitors enjoy is incredible.
The Finger Lakes is home to more than 100 wineries dotting the panoramic hills and is New York’s largest producing wine region. It enjoys national – even international – acclaim.
Outdoor activities are unparalleled with all four seasons packed – cycling, hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, skating, boating, waterskiing, windsurfing, swimming, fishing, golfing, and so much more. Every season offers stunning nature attractions and scenery delights.
Canandaigua Lake is the headquarters for FINGER LAKES YOGASCAPES. The name means “Chosen Spot” in native Seneca Indian language and visitors to the 19 mile long beauty immediately see why. The lake is one of the most picturesque lakes being large yet inviting, friendly and complete with creature features sought out by travelers from all over the world.
Just up the road is the urban center, Rochester, NY and its Fortune 100 companies and small entrepreneurial innovation, making Canandaigua Lake vibrant and happening.
